Hagadera OCPD Stephen Ekirapa, and his driver have died after their police Land Cruiser reportedly ran over an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) along the Saretho–Dadaab main route on Friday morning.
The incident occurred at approximately 6.00 am as the officers travelled along the route.
Preliminary reports indicate that the officers had been pursuing a bus from Hagadera before the explosion.
Both officers were confirmed dead following the blast.
Details regarding the extent of damage to the vehicle and whether other people were affected remain unclear.
Security agencies are expected to investigate the incident and assess the security situation along the affected route.
