A 63 year old man admitted to Nazareth Hospital in Limuru, Kiambu County, was found dead in a suspected suicide incident early Friday morning.
According to police, the deceased, identified as Benson Kanyiri, had been admitted to the hospital on June 22, 2026, while undergoing treatment for an enlarged prostate.
He had reportedly undergone two surgeries, a prostatectomy and a laparotomy between June 23 and July 7.
The incident was reported at around 7.00 a.m. by the hospital matron, Irene Njoroge, prompting officers from Kiawaroga Police Station and the DCI to visit the scene.
Preliminary investigations indicate that at about 5.30 a.m., a nurse accompanied by trainee medical staff went to the male surgical ward to administer medication but discovered that the patient was missing from his bed.
A search was launched, and his body was later found hanging from the roof of a veranda adjacent to the ward using a light green hospital bedsheet tied around his neck.
Police said the deceased still had an intact catheter in place and no other visible physical injuries were observed on the body.
Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers processed the scene before the body was transferred to the hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of his death.
