Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Eliud Lagat today led senior police commanders in an engagement with recruits undergoing training at the National Police Training College in Kiganjo, Nyeri County.
The event marked the first forum of its kind between the Service’s top leadership and trainee officers.
The session according to Lagat provided recruits with a rare opportunity to interact directly with the commanders they will soon serve under, while giving the police leadership a platform to mentor and inspire the next generation of officers before they join active service.
Lagat praised the recruits for their resilience and remarkable transformation over the past eight to nine months, recalling that many had arrived at the college looking “terrified” but had since developed confidence, discipline and professionalism through rigorous training.
As the recruits prepare to complete their training, the Deputy police boss urged them to remain faithful to the values and lessons instilled during their time at the academy.
“Don’t do anything outside there that you have not been taught. It takes a lot of time to build a career, and it takes a lot of discipline to progress in whatever field that you are going to do,” Lagat advised them.
The senior police commanders later held a separate mentorship session with officers undertaking senior promotional courses for the Inspectorate and the higher training course for Chief Inspectors.
During the meeting, Lagat challenged the officers to become exemplary ambassadors of the Kenya Police Service and embrace technology to enhance professionalism and improve service delivery.
