A police constable attached to Kegonga Police Station in Migori County has been arrested after threatening to kill a fellow officer senior to him in rank.
The officer was accused of using abusive language, and reportedly vowing to carry out a massacre before fleeing the station.
According to a police incident report, Police Constable Danson Kombo Kangu was arrested at about 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday within Kegonga Township following an intensive search led by the OCS) Kegonga.
The incident was initially reported at Kegonga Police Station after Corporal Daniel Plimo, the duty officer alleged that the officer, while armed with an AK-47 rifle loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition, threatened to kill Corporal Samwel Mate, who is senior to him in rank, and hurled abusive language at him.
Police said the constable later surrendered the rifle to the report office personnel before leaving the station.
As he fled, he allegedly threatened to carry out a massacre, prompting the immediate launch of a search operation.
The suspect was eventually located in Kegonga Township wearing part of his police uniform, including jungle trousers and jungle boots.
Officers reported that he appeared intoxicated and remained hostile during the arrest.
He was subdued, taken back to Kegonga Police Station, and placed in custody.
The firearm and ammunition had already been secured before the suspect left the station.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing and are being handled by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kuria East.
