A police officer was found dead inside his vehicle along the Machakos–Kitui Road in Mwala, Machakos County yesterday in an incident being investigated as a suspected suicide.
According to police, members of the public alerted traffic officers on patrol after noticing a suspiciously parked white Toyota Probox near Kikelenzu Junction at Mumoni Village in Utithini Sub-location.
Officers from Masii Police Station and detectives from the DCI Mwala responded to the scene and found the body of a man lying on the driver’s seat of the vehicle.
Police reported that foam was oozing from the deceased’s mouth.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a bottle top believed to be from a Diazinon pesticide container, alongside documents identifying the deceased as Police Constable Raphael Kingo’la Masesi, aged 37.
The documents included his certificate of appointment, national identification card and transfer orders indicating that he had been moved from Mukuyuni Police Station to Kikumini Police Post in April this year.
Police said no visible physical injuries were observed on the body.
The scene was processed and documented by investigators before the vehicle was towed to Masii Police Station.
His body was moved to Machakos Funeral Home pending a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of his death.
