Police in Ruiru,Kiambu county have recovered livestock suspected to have been stolen and arrested a prison officer in connection with the theft.
The incident followed up a stock theft case earlier reported yesterday evening.
Acting on intelligence that suspected stock thieves were likely to pass through their area of jurisdiction, officers from Juja Farm Police Station mounted an ambush along Juja Farm Road.
Early in the morning,the officers intercepted a suspicious motor vehicle, a white Toyota Hiace.
Upon stopping the vehicle, two occupants alighted and escaped into a nearby bush, leaving behind the driver.
A search conducted on the vehicle led to the recovery of 15 goats and 38 sheep suspected to have been stolen.
The driver, identified as Byron Lumumba,aged 29 and a prison officer based at Kitale prison in TransNzoia county byt currently attached to the Kenya Prison Training College Main Campus in Ruiru was arrested.
Together with the recovered livestock and the motor vehicle, the suspect was escorted to Abbasalama Police Post.
The recovered animals were later positively identified by their owner, James Kimotho, as part of the livestock reported stolen in the earlier incident.
Officers from the DCI Ruiru and Juja Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) units visited and processed the scene.
The suspect and exhibits were subsequently escorted to Ruiru Police Station for further investigations and necessary legal action.
The case remains under investigation by DCI Ruiru.
