Detectives have launched investigations after unknown suspects trailed a businessman from a bank in Buruburu before stealing Sh470,000 from his locked pickup truck at Kayole Junction.
According to police, the incident was reported at Obama Police Station.
The complainant, Moses Mutugi Waweru, told officers that he had withdrawn Sh470,000 from an Equity Bank branch in Buruburu at around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday before driving his Isuzu D-Max pickup towards Kayole.
Police said Waweru parked the vehicle at a Shell petrol station near Kayole Junction after securely locking it.
He reportedly left the cash behind the driver’s seat before walking to Muindi Mweusi Supermarket to make purchases.
He later withdrew an additional Sh30,000 from a nearby M-Pesa outlet.
On returning to his vehicle, he found the driver’s door open and Sh470,000 missing.
Petrol station attendants assisted in reviewing CCTV footage, which reportedly captured a motor vehicle registration KDV 756H with occupants believed to have followed the complainant from the Buruburu bank.
The footage allegedly shows one of the suspects opening the driver’s door and stealing the cash before fleeing.
The case is under investigation by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kayole.
