Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has explained why he held a Wednesday night meeting with Governor Johnson Sakaja who paid him a courtesy call at his UpperHill Office.
The two leaders were locked up in a meeting for more than two hours, setting the internet a blaze with speculations of a possible working relationship ahead of the 2027 elections.
However, Sonko explained that the meeting never dwelt on politics but instead, the two discussed how to help former Governor Ann Kananu who lost her mother.
“Today, we agreed on something meaningful to come together as leaders of Nairobi and stand with our former colleague, Governor Ann Kananu, who is grieving the loss of her mother and going through a very difficult time with heavy medical bills,”said Sonko.
Kananu who has made history as the first female Governor to lead the Capital City is said to have been hit hard by the loss of her mother and the intervention of the two leaders might come in handy.
The two are set to offset some of the medical bills even as burial arrangements continue.
Kananu served as Chief Officer for Disaster Management during Sonko’s tenure as Governor before she was nominated to be the Deputy Governor following the resignation of Polycarp Igathe.

Meanwhile Sonko’s meeting with Sakaja has also been seen as a reconcilation step despite political diffrences.
Sonko had revealed that efforts to commit forgiveness also informed reasons for their meeting.
“We have concluded our meeting with Governor Sakaja. Tonight, I am reminded of something deeply important let us pray for one another and forgive each other, because life is short and the world is very small.
Politics should never make us enemies; it is a platform to serve the people,”added Sonko.
He also noted that his party NEDP will focus more on strengthening grassroot support
“As NEDP, we have taken leadership to the grassroots standing with wananchi, touching lives, and bringing better change,”he explained.
