Village Elder Seriously Injured After Being Hit by Commuter Train in Mombasa

Shimanzi village elder in Mombasa county is fighting for his life after being hit by a commuter train in the Shimanzi area of Mombasa on Sunday afternoon.

According to a report filed at Mombasa Railways Police Station the incident was reported at about 3:40 p.m. by Eric Asholu, a security guard attached to Ismax Security.

Police officers who rushed to the scene established that the victim, identified as Stephen Mwangi Maina (64) was struck by a commuter train while cautioning several individuals who were allegedly bathing naked in an open area near the railway line and urging them to leave the location.

He sustained serious injuries during the incident.

Officers later proceeded to Coast General Referral Hospital, where they confirmed that Maina had been admitted in critical condition and was receiving treatment.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
