Police in Nairobi have detained a 45 year-old woman, Beatrice Wangare, who was reportedly in the company of veteran obstetrician and gynaecologist Dr Job Obwaka shortly before his sudden collapse in Kitengela on Friday evening.

According to an incident report filed at Kilimani Police Station, the 83 year old doctor who had a known history of medical conditions collapsed while running personal errands.

He was rushed to hospital by ambulance but was pronounced dead on arrival.

His body was later transferred to Lee Funeral Home, where a postmortem examination is expected to be conducted to establish the exact cause of death.

The case is currently under active investigation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, with detectives focusing on reconstructing the doctor’s final movements, including his interactions prior to the incident.

Dr Obwaka’s death has drawn significant public and professional attention, coming just weeks after his high profile arrest linked to governance disputes at Nairobi Hospital.

Police have not indicated whether the detention of Wangare is precautionary or tied to specific findings, but sources say she remains central to ongoing inquiries.

Investigations are continuing as police seek to piece together the circumstances surrounding the respected medic’s final hours.
