Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has downplayed the recent visit by United Opposition leaders to Western Kenya, terming it a โtourist tourโ with little or no tangible impact on the region.
Speaking in Busia, Lusaka questioned the credibility and intentions of opposition leaders, particularly former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, saying he lacked sufficient understanding of the Western Kenya region to lead engagement with the Mulembe Nation.
He challenged residents to critically assess the track record of opposition figures while in leadership, asking what meaningful contributions they had made to the region during their time in government.
โGachagua was a Deputy President, what did he do for our people? Instead, he came here reminding us that we had no shares in this government,โ Lusaka stated.

He made similar remarks regarding other opposition leaders, including Eugene Wamalwa, and Kalonzo Musyoka, accusing them of failing to present a clear development agenda for Western Kenya.
The Governor further claimed that the opposition campaign focused largely on criticising leaders and exchanging insults rather than outlining actionable plans for the region if elected.
โThey forgot to tell us what they will do for us. Instead, they concentrated on abusing local leaders and President Ruto,โ he added.
Lusaka, however, highlighted ongoing development initiatives under President William Rutoโs administration, saying the Western region is already benefiting from key projects such as the revival of the sugar sector, road infrastructure improvements including the Mau SummitโRironi corridor, and plans to extend the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) to Malaba.
The meeting was attended by Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula, Teso South MP Mary Emase, Kiminini MP Kakai Bisau, among other leaders.
