A three year old boy who had been abducted in 2024 has been reunited with his mother following the arrest of a suspect in Gede, Malindi,Kilifi County.
According to a report filed at Gede Police Station yesterday,the child’s mother, Sidi Safari Kaingu aged 28 and a resident of Keroka area in Malindi, reported that her son, Amos Thoya Iha, had been abducted in 2024.
The initial case had been reported at Malindi Police Station on December 17,2024 under linking the theft to a woman with whom the complainant had been living at the time.
The breakthrough came yesterday afternoon when Kaingu spotted the suspected abductor, identified as Anita Nyegu Johnson, in the Gede area while she was leaving a salon.
Police said that upon being confronted about the child’s whereabouts, the suspect pleaded with the complainant not to raise alarm and subsequently led her to the location where the child was being kept.
The child reportedly recognized and positively identified Kaingu as his mother, leading to an emotional reunion.
Police officers visited the scene, processed and documented the incident, and facilitated the child’s recovery.
The boy was handed back to his mother and is awaiting medical examination as part of the ongoing investigations.
The suspect was arrested and placed in police custody pending collection by relevant investigators and further inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction.
