A 30 year-old woman has been found raped and murdered inside her rented house in Dumez area, Mackinnon, in a chilling incident uncovered after a child’s persistent cries raised alarm.
This is the second woman to be killed in the area in a span of two days.
According to a police report, the incident was reported yesterday by a village elder, Dumez Shaaban Salim, following information from a landlord, Charity Mutheu Mutua.
The landlord stated that she became concerned after hearing continuous cries from a child inside one of her rental houses.
Upon checking, she found the door secured with a small padlock from the outside but still locked from inside.
After guiding the child, identified as three year old Steve, on how to open the door, she gained access to the room.
Inside, she discovered the lifeless body of her tenant, Dorcas Wayua Muthoka, lying on the floor, partially undressed.
She immediately raised an alarm, attracting neighbors before the matter was reported to police.
Officers from Mackinnon Police Station, led by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS), alongside detectives from Samburu who visited the scene and launched investigations.
Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased, who was single, had been in the house with an unknown male suspect believed to have engaged in sexual activity with her.
A condom packet was recovered at the scene.
The house showed signs of disturbance, suggesting a struggle.
Police further established that the assailant strangled the victim using a pullover tied around her neck.
The body was found lying on her back, with a visible bruise on her left leg below the knee.
Scene of Crime personnel from DCI Taru processed the area, and the body was moved to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary in Voi for preservation pending postmortem examination.
