A thanksgiving ceremony held in honour of youthful Principal Secretary for Youth Affairs and Creative Economy Fikirini Jacobs has unexpectedly thrust the 28 year old coastal leader into the national spotlight after a dramatic security breach involving President William Ruto.
The incident has triggered a reshuffle within the Presidential Escort Unit (PEU).

It occurred during a public function in Kilifi County where President William Ruto had attended a thanksgiving event organised for Jacobs following his appointment as Principal Secretary.
Tension erupted after an unidentified man carrying a Bible reportedly stormed the presidential dais and briefly held the President by the shoulder as he addressed the crowd, exposing glaring gaps in elite security operations and prompting swift changes within the presidential security command with its head Noah Maiyo being redeployed to Vigilance house and Recce Commandant William Sawe named the new PEU Commandant.

Yet even as the security scare dominated headlines, attention has increasingly shifted to the man at the centre of the occasion,Jacobs.
He’s one of the youngest Principal Secretaries in Kenya’s history and a fast-l rising political figure whose journey from student activism in Kilifi to senior government office has captivated many young Kenyans.
He was born and raised in Bamba, Ganze constituency in Kilifi County and has emerged from humble beginnings to become a powerful youth voice at the Coast.
He attended Mnagoni Primary School before joining Mwakitawa Secondary School, where he completed his KCSE in 2014.
He first joined Maasai Mara University to pursue a Bachelor of Education Arts degree before later transferring to Pwani University, where he studied Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and graduated in 2023.
While at Pwani University, Jacobs became a dominant figure in student leadership, serving as President of the Pwani University Students Association (PUSA).
DNK-International established that its at Pwani University where Jacobs gained popularity for championing student welfare and fiercely criticising university management over governance and student issues.

His activism, however, repeatedly placed him on a collision course with the University authorities.
Jacobs was expelled from both Maasai Mara University and later Pwani University over alleged involvement in student protests and agitation campaigns before eventually returning to complete his studies.
The experiences helped shape his image as a fearless youth mobiliser and outspoken activist.
Before joining the national government, Jacobs served as Director of the Governor’s Service Delivery Unit in Kilifi County under Governor Gideon Mung’aro, where he coordinated county development projects and service delivery programmes.
He also served as ODM Kilifi youth leader and built a strong reputation among Gen Z and youth political movements.
President Ruto’s decision to nominate Jacobs as Principal Secretary in charge of Youth Affairs and Creative Economy in 2025 was widely interpreted as a strategic move aimed at reconnecting government with young people following mounting youth dissatisfaction and Gen Z-driven political activism across the country.

The appointment was seen as symbolic recognition that young people could occupy powerful positions traditionally reserved for older political elites.
Since assuming office, Jacobs has focused heavily on youth empowerment, digital opportunities and the creative economy.
He has consistently pushed for support for content creators, digital entrepreneurs, artists and innovators, arguing that Kenya’s youth possess enormous untapped talent that can drive economic growth if properly supported.
He has also championed programmes aimed at connecting young people to funding opportunities, mentorship, innovation platforms and government empowerment initiatives.
His leadership style and youthful image have resonated strongly with many young Kenyans, particularly at the Coast region where his rise is viewed as proof that national leadership positions are no longer inaccessible to youth from marginalised or rural backgrounds.
President Ruto himself during his five days coastal tour described Jacobs’ rise from Bamba village in Kilifi to State House leadership as “a powerful testament to the limitless potential that exists in every corner of Kenya.”
Political analysts now view Jacobs as one of the emerging young political figures to watch in Kenya’s future leadership landscape.
Although he has not publicly declared interest in elective politics, his growing national visibility, grassroots mobilisation skills and influence among coastal youth continue to fuel speculation that he could eventually seek parliamentary, gubernatorial or national political office in future.
To many of his supporters, his biggest achievement remains symbolic, becoming a living example that youthful activism, resilience and persistence can open doors to the highest levels of government, even for those who once faced expulsion, controversy and political resistance.
