Journalists and presenters working under Royal Media Services who are planning to contest elective seats in next year’s General Election have reportedly been directed to resign from their positions by the end of June this year.
The directive is said to have been issued internally by the RMS management board as the country slowly shifts into campaign season ahead of the 2027 polls.
Among the prominent media personalities reportedly preparing to join politics are Trevor Ombija, who has launched campaigns for the Nyakach parliamentary seat, and Lulu Hassan, who is seeking the Mvita MP seat.
Stephen Letoo is also said to be interested in the Kilgoris MP race, although sources indicate that efforts are underway to convince him to shelve his bid.
Others include Michael Njenga, who is eyeing the Kabete MP seat, Mwanahamisi Hamadi, who is preparing to challenge for the Likoni MP seat, and Tina Ogal, who is targeting the Embakasi East parliamentary seat.

Also joining the growing list is Nancy Kwamboka Omweri, who is aiming for the Nyamira gubernatorial seat.
Although RMS has not publicly released an official statement regarding the directive, similar instructions were reportedly issued ahead of the 2022 General Election, when journalists seeking political offices were ordered to step down months before the polls.
For years, politicians have raised concerns that journalists pursuing political ambitions while still actively working in media houses enjoy an unfair advantage by using their platforms for indirect self promotion at no cost.
The upcoming elections are also attracting notable activists and public figures.
Among them is Boniface Mwangi, the journalist turned civil rights activist who has already declared his intention to vie for the presidency.
Mwangi has since launched an online fundraising campaign to support his presidential bid.
From us at DNK-International, we wish all aspiring leaders the very best as they prepare for the political journey ahead.
