A man aged 25 years old has been murdered in Kisii county after he was suspected of raping an old woman and raping her in Inani Village,Bombaba East Location, Kenyenya, Kisii County.
The man was lynched by an angry mob today.
According to police reports from Magena Police Station, the incident was reported by area chief William Muriro, who said he had received information from members of the public that a young man identified as Albert Nyabuto had been killed by residents who accused him of raping and killing an elderly woman identified as Damaris Kemunto Patrick.
Police officers from Magena Police Station, accompanied by detectives from the DCI Kenyenya, visited the scene where preliminary investigations established that the suspect was allegedly spotted running away from a thicket where the body of the elderly woman was later discovered.
Members of the public reportedly pursued and lynched him before dumping his body inside a trench near Mateng’o Road.
The woman’s body was found approximately 500 metres away in a nearby thicket.
Both scenes were processed by investigators before the bodies were removed to Gucha Sub County Hospital Mortuary for preservation and postmortem examination.
Police have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
