A high level security meeting bringing together senior police and security commanders from across the Central Region has been held to review the aftermath of the second GenZ anniversary and how to handle protesters during the SabaSaba day.
“The event was held on Wednesday at St. Peter’s ACK Church Hall in Nyeri Town to review security preparedness and strengthen coordination ahead of the anticipated July 7 (Saba Saba) demonstrations,”said
Central Regional Commissioner Joshua Nkanatha who chaired the meeting.
It was also attended by the Regional Police Commander Geoffrey Mayek.
It brought together County and Sub-County Police Commanders, Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) commanders, and Administration Police Service (APS) commanders from across the region.
The commanders reviewed the security operations conducted during the second Gen Z protests and discussed lessons learned.
The session also served as a familiarization meeting following the recent changes in the region’s top security leadership.
Mayiek commended officers across all levels of command for their professionalism during previous security operations and outlined key measures to enhance operational readiness.
Among the directives issued were the protection of police stations during demonstrations, prudent use of government resources, enhanced police visibility, prevention of unlawful groupings during protests, sound decision making, effective briefing and debriefing of officers, promotion of teamwork, intensified crackdowns on illicit brews and narcotics, targeted operations in crime hotspots, protection of supermarkets and other critical government infrastructure, and proper documentation of all persons arrested during protests and security operations.
