The wife of Faith Community Fellowship Church Bishop William Abuga was injured and robbed of cash and a mobile phone after a man posing as a customer attacked her at their shop at Ohero Shopping Centre in Rangwe, Homa Bay County.
Police said Dorcas Adhiambo Abuga, 59, was attending to the family shop at about 1.00pm on Tuesday when a tall, black young man carrying a backpack entered and asked about the price of eggs.
The suspect attacked her on the back of the head as she moved towards the shelves to show him the eggs.
She fell to the floor and raised an alarm, attracting neighbours, but the suspect had already fled.
He escaped with two wallets containing Sh30,000 and Sh1,500 respectively, as well as a black Samsung mobile phone valued at about Sh25,000.
The total value of the stolen property was estimated at Sh56,500.
The victim sustained fresh cuts on her forehead and the back of her head.
She was taken to Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital, where she was treated and later discharged.
Police officers from Ngegu Police Station, accompanied by DCI personnel from Rangwe, processed and documented the scene.
Investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest the suspect.
