A lion doesn’t roar when it’s hunting; it roars to paralyze its prey with fear. Peter, who knew the pain of falling under pressure, warns us that our spiritual adversary uses the same tactic.
He uses “roars” of anxiety, intimidation, and isolation to make us feel small and defeated before the battle even begins.
To be “sober-minded” means more than just physical temperance; it is a mental clarity that keeps eternity in view. When we stay alert, we recognize the enemy’s bluffs. We remember that while the devil may prowl, he is a defeated foe—the Lion of Judah is the one who truly holds the power.
Don’t let your guard down by “napping” in your faith; stay awake to the truth of who God is.
Identify a “roar” of fear or intimidation you’ve been hearing lately. Today, refuse to be paralyzed by it. Instead, stand firm in your faith by speaking a specific promise of God over that situation.
