A police officer attached to Olmoran Police Station in Laikipia County has been arrested in Wajir East following allegations of assault and incitement to violence linked to a land dispute.
According to a report filed at Wajir Police Station yesterday afternoon,the incident was reported by Abdi Adan Hassan, a resident of Wagberi location.
He stated that at around 11:00 a.m., he was at a parcel of land he had purchased from Abdirizak Abdi Dabar, accompanied by his brother Ibrahim Adan and several workers who were undertaking development activities, including digging drainage and fencing.
The situation reportedly escalated when Police Inspector Adan Abdi Ugas, who is currently attached to Olmoran Police Station in Kirima Sub-County, arrived at the scene accompanied by a group of individuals allegedly armed with pangas and wooden clubs.
The group is said to have forcefully stopped the ongoing work and ordered the workers to vacate the site.
During the confrontation, the complainant sustained injuries to the face and leg after being allegedly assaulted.
Police officers from the nearby Kenha-Lefaley camp responded swiftly to the scene, dispersing the group and restoring order.
The officer in question was arrested and escorted to Wajir Police Station, where he is currently in custody.
He is facing charges of assault and incitement to violence, with investigations ongoing under the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Wajir East.
