BIBLE VERSE OF THE DAY:Matthew 9:36

By Pastor Vincent Roy Agoya

“When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.”-Matthew 9:36

It is easy to look at a crowd and see a nuisance, a statistic, or an obstacle. But when Jesus looked at the masses, He didn’t see a “crowd”—He saw individuals in distress. The Greek word for compassion used here suggests a visceral, gut-level response. He felt their exhaustion and their aimlessness in His very soul.

Jesus describes the people as “harassed and helpless.” They were wandering without direction, burdened by the weight of the world and the failures of their leaders. Today, our world looks much the same. People are weary, distracted, and spiritually malnourished.

As followers of Christ, we are called to trade our judgment for His perspective. We aren’t just meant to acknowledge the “sheep without a shepherd”; we are called to be the hands and feet that lead them toward the Great Shepherd. Compassion isn’t a feeling to be felt; it’s a catalyst for action.

Shift your perspective today. Identify one person in your immediate circle—a coworker, a neighbor, or a friend—who seems “harassed” by life’s demands. Commit to performing one tangible act of service or offering a specific word of encouragement to them before the sun sets. Don’t just see the need; meet it.
