Burnt Forest:Five arrested as Police foil looting from lorry accident

Five suspects are in police custody following a road accident that triggered a looting incident at Burnt Forest trading centre in Uasin Gishu County.

Officers from Tarakwa Police Station responded to the incident in the wee hours of today after a Mercedes-Benz Axor lorry, registration number KBS 238C/ZF 3358, driven by Kennedy Chisikwa, was transporting MDF boards from Kitale to Nairobi lost control.

Police say the driver attempted to overtake near the Total petrol station at Burnt Forest but swerved after spotting an oncoming vehicle.

The truck veered off the road to the left side, leading to the accident.

A county multi-agency operations team led by the Sub-County Police Commander (SCPC) Ainabkoi responded swiftly to the scene and managed to contain a developing looting situation by members of the public.

During the operation, officers arrested five suspects identified as Joseph Okotoko (25), Peter Long’ore (45), Julius Koech (43), Nicholas Kipkoech Samoei (40), and Pius Korir (42).

Police also recovered five MDF boards believed to have been stolen from the accident scene.

Additionally, three motorcycles allegedly used to ferry the stolen goods were impounded.

These include a Jialing motorcycle (KMCH 398U), a Boxer BM150 (KMFR 753Z), and an unregistered King Horse motorcycle bearing chassis number LFUYRC20K020256.

All suspects are currently in custody awaiting arraignment in court, while investigations into the incident are ongoing.
