A commercial sex worker has been found murdered in her rented lodging room in Mariakani township Kilifi County.
The incident was reported yesterday at Mariakani Police station by Esther Kanyuka, a fellow sex worker, who raised concern after her colleague, Salfine Juma, went missing for an entire night.
Kanyuka, together with other women living in adjacent rooms at Wayside Lodging became suspicious after finding Juma’s door locked from outside.
Their fears were confirmed when they peeped through a netted window and saw her lying motionless on the bed.
They alerted the lodge management, who in turn reported the matter to police.
Officers led by the OCS Mariakani and the Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer (SCCIO) Kaloleni responded swiftly, breaking into the room where they discovered Juma’s lifeless body lying on her back, covered with a bedsheet.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased had been strangled using a red striped Maasai sheet.
No visible external injuries were noted on the body.
The scene was documented and processed by forensic officers, and the body was moved to the Coast Regional Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination.
Police have launched investigations into the incident, with detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kaloleni taking over the case.
