A 51 year old businessman from Nairobi is fighting for his life after he was brutally assaulted by an angry mob in Kilifi Town over allegations linked to witchcraft and claims that another man’s manhood had mysteriously disappeared.
The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon at Kaya area in Kilifi North after police received a report that the businessman, identified as Edwin Kimathi, was being attacked by a large crowd
According to police, officers led by the OCS, the Officer Commanding Crime (OC Crime) and the Crime Standby Team they rushed to the scene where they found a mob of about 200 people assaulting the victim.
Preliminary investigations established that Kimathi owns rental houses in Kaya and Mnarani areas within Kilifi Township.
He had travelled to Kilifi to supervise one of his housing projects when the incident occurred.
Police said an unidentified person claimed that his manhood had shrunk and disappeared after greeting Kimathi.
The allegation quickly sparked an argument that attracted hundreds of residents, who accused the businessman of practising witchcraft.
The crowd reportedly stripped Kimathi naked before attacking him with sticks and stones, leaving him with serious injuries.
Police officers managed to rescue the victim and rushed him to Kilifi County Hospital, where he was admitted in serious condition.
Investigations have been launched to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
