The High Court has pardoned Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale over contempt proceedings linked to an Ebola quarantine facility in Laikipia County.
Duale appeared in person after being summoned to show cause why he should not be punished for allegedly failing to obey court orders on the facility.
He told the court that neither he nor the Ministry of Health intended to disobey the judiciary. Duale said the ministry remains committed to the Constitution and to complying with court orders.
The CS explained that Ebola preparedness measures were guided by scientific evidence and public health strategy.
He said the ministry paused its partnership with the United States after interpreting the court’s orders as stopping work on the quarantine facility.
Duale also dismissed fears of Ebola transmission from the facility, saying there had been no community exposure or infections linked to it.
In its ruling, the court pardoned, discharged and warned Duale.
The judge said his immediate appearance after the summons showed respect for judicial authority.
No punishment was issued, but the court cautioned the Cabinet Secretary to strictly obey court orders going forward.
