The Dada Za Sifuna movement has strongly condemned the violence witnessed during the Linda Mwananchi tour of Homa Bay county on Sunday.
They have called for an independent and comprehensive investigation into the incidents.
In a statement issued by co-founders Penina Barasa, also known as Nina Sylvan, and Marion Mabwa, the movement said it was deeply disturbed by reports that some women participating in the convoy were allegedly forcefully removed from vehicles and attacked with pangas and machetes.
The group said the alleged attacks were unacceptable, stressing that Kenyans should be free to participate in political activities and support leaders of their choice without fear of violence.
Dada Za Sifuna also expressed concern over reports implicating political leaders in the violence, saying leaders should promote peace, tolerance and democratic participation rather than incite or facilitate attacks against political opponents.
The movement called on security agencies to establish the whereabouts and safety of all Linda Mwananchi supporters reported missing following the chaos.
It further demanded investigations into allegations of abductions, assaults, vandalism and the burning of vehicles.
“Anyone found to have planned, financed, incited or participated in the violence must face the full force of the law, regardless of their political position or status,” the statement added.
The group urged supporters to remain calm,peaceful and warned against retaliation, saying political competition should be based on ideas, policies and service rather than violence.
They thanked Linda Mwananchi leaders Edwin Sifuna, Babu Owino and Siaya Governor James Orengo for what it described as their steadfast pursuit of a better Kenya.
The movement declared that it would not be intimidated, silenced or provoked into violence, while calling for peaceful political engagement and protection of democratic rights.
