DRC Presidential Delegation Firearms Held at JKIA Over Missing Permits

By Our Correspondent,JKIA.

Two firearms and ammunition belonging to members of the Democratic Republic of Congo presidential delegation were detained at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport after officials discovered the weapons lacked the required import and export permits.

According to a report filed at Kenya Airports Police Unit this evening, the incident occurred on Friday at around 1.30 pm during a firearms verification exercise at Terminal 1A International Arrivals Customs Office.

The weapons were part of the security detail accompanying the DRC presidential delegation that arrived aboard Ethiopian Airlines Flight ET318.

Police stated that a Jericho pistol loaded with 18 rounds of ammunition belonged to John Claude Lukusa Kasamba while another Jericho pistol loaded with 18 rounds belonged to Alain Ngwana Muniongi.

Both are Congolese nationals.

Authorities noted that the firearms could not be cleared because the DRC President had not yet arrived in the country and the required permits were missing.

Following consultations between Customs officials and protocol officers, the firearms and ammunition were handed over to the JKIA Police Station armoury for safe custody pending clearance and presentation of the necessary documentation.

Police confirmed that no security breach or incident occurred during the exercise.
