A man believed to be drunkard has died after falling from a staircase of a four storey residential building in Umoja Two, Nairobi.

The incident was reported at Buruburu Police Station on Tuesday night.

According to the report, police were informed by John Mwangi Maina, a resident of Umoja Two, who said he was inside his third flloor house when he heard screams coming from outside.

Upon checking, he discovered that his neighbour and colleague at a jua kali workshop in Umoja Two had apparently fallen from the staircase of the fourth floor to the ground.

The deceased, who was only identified by the name Kariuki and was said to be from Nyandarua, reportedly lived in House No. 1A on the fourth floor of the building.

Neighbours suspected that he may have missed a step and fallen over the staircase, possibly after consuming alcohol.

They rushed him to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital with the assistance of other residents, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police officers who visited the scene found the body of an elderly man with his clothes soaked in blood and multiple injuries believed to have been sustained during the fall.

No note or document was found on the body to immediately establish his identity.

Crime Scene Investigation officers from Buruburu processed the scene before the body was removed to the mortuary, where it is awaiting post-mortem examination and identification by his family.

The matter has been classified as a person found dead under unclear circumstances (PUI), with detectives from DCI Buruburu handling investigations to establish the exact cause and circumstances of the death.
