Four charged with extorting Sh200 000 from foreign national

Four people have been charged before the Milimani Law Courts with extortion after they allegedly demanded Sh 200,000 from a foreign national through threats and intimidation.

The accused are Peter Macharia Gatena, Lawrence Ireri Karani, Josphat Mburu Kamau and Ruannalice Nyambura Ng’ang’a.

According to the charge sheet, the four jointly with others not before the court, demanded the money on September 8 in River Road area, Nairobi from Hussein Yusuf, a sales manager at Teelux Company Limited.

The prosecution told the court that the accused threatened that the complainant’s business premises would continue to face interference and harassment unless the money was paid.

The four were arrested on September 8 and arraigned the following day, where they denied the charges.

During the bond hearing, the court granted each accused a bond of Sh 50,000 with a surety of a similar amount, or an alternative cash bail of Sh 20,000.

The case will be mentioned on September 23, 2026 for hearing.
