By Our Correspondent,Murang’a

For nearly two decades, Dr. Stanley Kamau Maina has remained one of Kenya’s most recognizable anti-jigger campaigners, transforming the lives of thousands of vulnerable families through the work of Ahadi Kenya Trust.

He’s widely respected for championing the rights of poor communities, women, children, and people living with disabilities.

Dr. Kamau became a national figure after leading aggressive campaigns against jigger infestation in Kenya.

Dr.Kamau who is in his 50’s was born in Murang’a county and has spent many years working in community empowerment and public health advocacy.

He founded Ahadi Kenya Trust in 2007 after witnessing the suffering of people affected by jiggers, especially children and the elderly living in poverty-stricken rural areas.

The word “Ahadi” means “promise” in Swahili, symbolizing the organization’s commitment to restoring hope and dignity to marginalized communities.

Since its establishment,as he told DNK-International, the organization has partnered with the Ministry of Health, community leaders, media houses, corporate sponsors, and volunteers to fight jigger infestation and improve hygiene standards.

Under his leadership, the trust expanded rapidly and its trying to make in roads in some neighboring counties.

Locally it has opened dozens of treatment and rehabilitation centers.

According to the organization, more than 2.6 million Kenyans affected by jiggers have been registered since its inception while hundreds of thousands received treatment, medication, rehabilitation support, clean water access, and livelihood empowerment.

The campaign also focused on education about sanitation and poverty reduction in remote villages.

Ahadi Trust operates mainly through grassroots outreach programs, mobile medical camps, partnerships with health workers, and community volunteers who identify affected families and connect them with treatment and rehabilitation support.

Dr. Kamau also introduced awareness drives through schools, churches, corporate events, and national campaigns that attracted media attention across the country.

One of the biggest achievements of Dr. Kamau was convincing both ordinary citizens and influential leaders to support the anti-jigger movement.

By using emotional community stories, public awareness campaigns, and collaboration with the media, he managed to turn what had long been considered a hidden shame into a national conversation.

Corporate companies, politicians, religious leaders, and philanthropists eventually joined the campaign by donating medical supplies, shoes, bedding, and funding for treatment centers.

Several prominent leaders and organizations have been associated with the initiative over the years, including former First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, health officials, county governments, community volunteers, and senior politicians.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has also publicly supported dignity and empowerment programs for vulnerable communities in Kenya.

Mudavadi yesterday opened Ahadi Kenya Trust “jiggers archive” in Murang’a county.

Beyond jigger eradication, Dr. Kamau has also been involved in governance education, community policing advocacy, rehabilitation programs, and empowerment projects aimed at improving the quality of life among poor communities.

His humanitarian efforts earned him national recognition, including appointments to public service boards and awards for outstanding intervention against jigger infestation in East Africa.

In 2018, he was appointed to the board of Kenyatta National Hospital in recognition of his public service contributions.

Today, Dr. Stanley Kamau remains a symbol of hope to many families who once suffered silently from extreme poverty and disease.

Through persistence, media influence, partnerships, and compassion, he succeeded in turning a neglected health problem into a national movement that restored dignity to thousands across East Africa.
