Sammy Douglas Kamau Ngotho, a son of Nyandarua County and a seasoned grassroots politician from Ol Kalou Constituency, has officially emerged as the DCP party candidate for the upcoming Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election.
An Agricultural Economist by profession, Ngotho has built his political profile around close engagement with the people and consistent participation in the region’s political landscape.
Over the years, he has earned recognition as a resilient and people centered leader whose political journey has been marked by persistence, loyalty to his constituents, and steady grassroots mobilization.

Ngotho first entered elective politics in 2013 when he was elected the inaugural MCA for “Karau Ward” on a DP party ticket, defying the strong TNA Party wave that swept across much of Mt Kenya region at the time.
His victory was widely viewed as a demonstration of his personal political strength and deep connection with local voters.
In the 2017 General Election, following controversial Jubilee Party nominations, Ngotho contested as an independent candidate.
Despite the political headwinds, he mounted a formidable campaign and narrowly lost by fewer than 200 votes, a result that further cemented his standing as a serious political force in Ol Kalou politics.
During the 2022 General Election, Ngotho flew the UDA flag in the Ol Kalou parliamentary race, where he gave the late David Kiaraho a highly competitive contest.
Although he narrowly lost to the veteran politician, his performance reinforced his growing influence and popularity across the constituency.

Following the election, Ngotho joined the Office of the Deputy President, where he served until the political fallout surrounding the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua led to the dismissal of several advisors and contracted staff, including him.
Even amid the shifting political landscape, Ngotho remained active on the ground, maintaining close contact with residents and continuing to champion local development and community interests.

His political comeback gained fresh momentum on Saturday when he officially won the DCP party nominations in a fiercely contested primary election that attracted a record turnout of more than 20,000 voters.
Ngotho secured a commanding victory with 12,088 votes, defeating his closest challenger, gospel singer and land agent Paul Waiganjo, who garnered 4,234 votes.

Political analysts now view Ngotho’s decisive nomination victory as a strong indication that a significant section of Ol Kalou residents continues to believe in his leadership, consistency, and long standing commitment to the constituency.
With the by-election fast approaching, his candidacy is expected to reshape the political dynamics of Ol Kalou and position him as one of the frontrunners in the race for Parliament.
