Students at Multimedia University of Kenya,Nairobi yesterday staged demonstrations and barricaded the main Magadi–Rongai road.
The students were protesting over alleged unresolved academic issues linked to lecturers strike.
According to police reports, the demonstrations began after students accused the university administration of failing to address their concerns, particularly the inability to sit scheduled examinations due to disruptions caused by lecturers’ unrest over unpaid dues.
The protesting students blocked sections of the busy road, causing significant disruption to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
Police officers responded to the scene and dispersed the demonstrators, pushing them back into the institution’s premises.
Normal traffic flow was restored at around 3:30 p.m. following interventions by the university administration, which reportedly held consultative meetings with staff unions and agreed to implement a previously negotiated resolution framework aimed at addressing the dispute.
Security agencies have since intensified patrols around the institution and its environs to monitor the situation and prevent further disruptions.
No injuries or arrests were reported during the demonstrations.
