Police in Kirinyaga West have launched investigations into a series of coordinated break-ins targeting churches in the Baricho area on Friday night.

According to a report filed at Baricho Police Station today unknown assailants broke into PCEA Nguguini Church, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Riakiania, and ACK Church Riakiania, stealing electronic equipment of substantial value.

The incident at PCEA Nguguini Church was reported by church elder David Muriuki, who indicated that the attackers gained entry by breaking through window grills.

Items stolen from the church included an HDMI NVR valued at Sh 30,000, a toolkit box valued at Sh 30,000, a PCR 433 keyboard/piano valued at Sh 50,000, a pair of BNK microphones valued at Sh 25,000, a pair of SHURE microphones valued at Sh 30,000, and an extension cable valued at Sh 1,000.

On the same night, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Riakiania was also broken into using a similar method, with the suspects stealing a new keyboard/piano valued at Sh 230,000, another keyboard valued at Sh 80,000, a receiver valued at Sh 8,400, microphones valued at Sh 20,000, and a tin wallet containing Sh 5,000 meant for church contributions.

Police officers from Baricho Police Station, accompanied by detectives from DCI Kirinyaga West, visited all the scenes and confirmed that entry in each case was gained by breaking window grills, suggesting a similar modus operandi across the incidents.

Investigators believe the break-ins were carried out by the same group due to the coordinated timing and identical methods used.
