An officer attached to the National Youth Service (NYS) and deployed at Kisumu International Airport was allegedly assaulted on Friday morning by a security aide attached to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

According to a report filed at Kisumu Airport Police Station, the incident occurred at around 8:50 a.m. at the airport’s exit toll gate where the officer, identified as Michael Kinyua, was on duty.

Kinyua, who is attached to the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), reportedly stopped an unmarked vehicle carrying the former Deputy President’s entourage and requested proof of payment before allowing the vehicle to exit the airport premises.

Police reports indicate that one of the security aides allegedly became confrontational and physically assaulted the officer by slapping and kicking him several times after he asked for the entry payment receipt.

The vehicle later left the airport and proceeded towards Vihiga County.

Following the assault, the injured officer was rushed to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital where he received treatment and was later discharged in fair condition.

The incident was recorded at Kisumu Airport Police Station.

Investigations are ongoing, with police officers seeking to establish the identity of the suspect and the circumstances surrounding the assault.
