A police officer attached to the Administration Police Service (APS) and serving as a driver to Livestock Principal Secretary Jonathan Mueke has been arrested in connection with the attempted murder of a motorist during a shooting incident in Nairobi’s Zimmerman area.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 4am on Sunday when Hillary Kibet was driving from Syndicate Lounge after dropping his colleague, Janice Khendi, at her workplace in Zimmerman.
The officer identified as Corporal Nicholas Miriti allegedly emerged from behind and fired two shots at Kibet’s vehicle.
One bullet struck the right side of the Honda near the side mirror, while the second shattered the driver’s side window before lodging in the steering wheel.
Kibet escaped unhurt and sped away from the scene before reporting the matter to Kasarani Police Station.
Crime scene officers documented the vehicle as investigations commenced.
In a breakthrough, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kasarani arrested Miriti of the APS Special Government Buildings (SGB) Unit.
Police recovered a Ceska pistol loaded with 13 rounds of 9mm ammunition during a search.
The firearm and ammunition have been seized and will be forwarded for ballistic examination to establish whether they were used in the attack.
He has been placed in custody and is expected to face an attempted murder charge under Section 220 of the Penal Code as investigations continue.
