Police in Kapsabet have arrested a woman and a GSU officer following the recovery of an illegal firearm.
According to police report at Kapsabet Police Station yesterday,officers acted on a tip off that a woman was armed at the Golden Palm Hotel within Kapsabet township.
The operation was led by the OCS Joseph Kamonde, alongside a team of officers.
Upon arrival at the scene, the officers apprehended the suspect, identified as Regina Musenya Mutua.
A search led to the recovery of a Jericho pistol loaded with two magazines, each containing 15 rounds of ammunition.
The firearm and ammunition were reportedly concealed in a bluish handbag.
During interrogation, the suspect claimed that the weapon belonged to a police officer identified as Police Constable Erick Kemei, attached to the General Service Unit headquarters.
Police subsequently traced the officer to Eliud Kipchoge Complex, where he was reportedly found playing volleyball.
He was arrested and escorted alongside the woman to Kapsabet Police Station for further questioning.
Both suspects remain in custody as investigations continue under the Sub-County Criminal Investigations Office (SCCIO) in Nandi Central.
Police have not yet disclosed the circumstances under which the firearm was in the woman’s possession or whether it was officially issued.
