DNK International Security officers stationed at Arabia Police Station in Mandera County on Friday night repelled a suspected Al-Shabaab attack after heavily armed militants launched an assault on the camp.
According to a police report, the attack occurred at about 8:58 p.m. when approximately eight suspected Al-Shabaab terrorists approached the camp from the south-eastern side.
The attackers fired rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) and opened heavy gunfire in an attempt to breach the security installation.
Officers on duty, who were on high alert, responded swiftly and engaged the attackers, forcing them to retreat.
No casualties were reported among the security personnel, and all officers at the camp were accounted for following the incident.
Police said clearance patrols would be conducted at first light to assess the area and establish whether the attackers left behind any evidence or suffered casualties during the exchange.
The situation in the area was reported to be calm after the attack, while detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations’ Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) in Mandera launched investigations into the incident.
