Two Polish tourists have reported a suspected safari fraud incident in Voi, Taita Taveta County, after allegedly losing money to a man who arranged a trip to Tsavo East National Park.
The two women, aged 33 and identified as Stodownik Wiktoria Lucja and Makowska Joanna Katarzyna, reported the incident at Voi Police Station on Friday.
According to the police report, the tourists paid USD 1,220 through Pesapal on October 19 to Africanjungl, on behalf of Natural World Kenya Safaris in Nairobi, for a safari arranged by a man using mobile phone number (that we have withheld to publish for security reasons).
The tourists arrived in Kenya on October 20 and were scheduled to return to Poland on October 27.
However, their suspicions were raised when they were asked to make additional payments, including USD 175 in cash for park fees and USD 240 through a card transaction for accommodation.
They also paid an additional USD 20 in cash towards accommodation at Manyata Camp in Voi town.
The situation took a turn when the tourists attempted to contact the man who had arranged the safari, only to find that his phone was switched off.
The women told police that they had been left without money to sustain themselves and sought assistance following the suspected fraud.
Police have recorded the incident and are handling the matter as investigations into the alleged fraud continue.
