A prominent Isiolo businesswoman was shot dead while a boda boda rider was seriously injured during a violent robbery at the Isiolo Main Bus Stage near Westgate Market on Monday night.
The deceased was identified Angelina Kananu aged 49.
She sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the chest, stomach and left leg.
According to police, the attackers also stole her purse before fleeing the scene.
The injured victim, Cyrus Mugambi Lichira, 48, a boda boda rider, was shot in the right buttock.
He was rushed to Isiolo County Referral Hospital, where he was admitted.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Kananu had just closed her business and was boarding a motorcycle when two armed men, reportedly carrying a rifle, approached on foot and opened fire before robbing her.
The assailants escaped into the nearby Bulapesa slums.
Police officers from Isiolo Police Station, accompanied by detectives and crime scene investigators, responded to the scene.
Five spent cartridges and one live round were recovered as evidence.
Kananu’s body was moved to Kiirua Mission Hospital Mortuary for preservation pending a post-mortem examination.
Police have launched investigations to identify and arrest the suspects behind the fatal attack.
