DNK International Three suspected armed robbers linked to the recent Chaiiwali Restaurant robbery in Westlands Nairobi have been arrested and two firearms recovered from them in Githurai, Kiambu County.
According to police, officers from the DCI headquarters conducted the operation on Monday evening after receiving reports linking the suspects to a series of robberies in Nairobi and its surrounding areas.
The suspects, who were hiding in an apartment on the sixth floor of Sucasa Apartments along ACK 6th Street in Githurai Mwiki attempted to escape through the rear exit after sensing the presence of police.
As they tried to climb down the building, members of the public raised an alarm, prompting officers to respond swiftly by firing warning shots into the air.
The suspects reportedly fell and were arrested.
Police identified the suspects as Edison Mukama, also known as Musa Abdul, a 22 year old Rwandan national, Adens Kikanga, 25, and John Njuguna Githinji, 25.
A female suspect managed to escape during the commotion and is being sought by detectives.
Following interrogation, the suspects led investigators to another apartment in Githurai Kimbo’s Manguo area, where a search recovered two pistols.
The firearms included a Mini Beretta pistol loaded with three rounds of ammunition and a Retay Falcon pistol loaded with five rounds of ammunition.
Investigators believe the trio is linked to an armed robbery at Chaiiwali Restaurant along General Mathenge Road in Westlands on July 4.
During that incident, two armed robbers were captured on CCTV robbing customers before firing shots into the air as they escaped on two motorcycles.
The crime scene was processed by Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers from Juja Sub-County, while detectives from DCI Westlands have taken over investigations as efforts continue to trace the escaped female suspect.
