A man aged 23 has been arrested in Thika after assaulting a police officer who was responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked for a prolonged period outside Mbabini Primary School.
The incident was reported at Thika Police Station at about 12.30pm.
Police officers on mobile patrol were alerted by a security officer at the school who raised concern over a Peugeot vehicle, registration number KDG 508T, which had been parked near the school gate for some time.
The officers approached the vehicle to establish the occupants’ intentions, but the occupants reportedly declined to open the doors.
The officers managed to open one unlocked door, after which the driver, identified as Samson Omondi, allegedly became abusive and violent while inciting members of the public who had gathered at the scene.
As officers attempted to arrest him, Omondi resisted and bit police officer Jackline Wandia on the right index finger.
The officers eventually overpowered and arrested him before taking him to Thika Police Station.
Wandia was treated at Thika Level 5 Hospital and discharged in stable condition.
Police later revisited the scene and towed the vehicle to the station.
Omondi, who was accompanied by a 29 year old woman identified as Anita Mbithe, was booked at the station.
He is expected to face a charge of assaulting a police officer in the due execution of duty.
The OCS Thika Police Station is investigating the case.
