Teacher on interdiction dies by suicide

A 43 year old teacher who was on interdiction over alcohol abuse has been found dead in his home in Mbarakira Village, Laikipia County, in what police say was by suicide.

Police at Karandi Police Station,in their today’s report said that the incident was brought to their attention by Muthengera Location Chief, Ngujiri.

Preliminary information indicates that the deceased, identified as Alex Maina Mwaura, was discovered earlier in the morning by a family member who had gone to check on him after he failed to respond.

Concern grew when he remained unresponsive inside his locked house, prompting relatives to force entry through a window, where they found him unresponsive.

Police officers from Karandi Police Station, accompanied by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), visited and processed the scene.

The body was later moved to Nyahururu Sub-County Referral Hospital mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted.

Investigations have revealed that the deceased was a teacher at Muthengera Day Senior School and had been on interdiction over alleged alcoholism and prolonged absence from duty.

It is further alleged that he had previously undergone rehabilitation on two occasions without success.

Authorities also noted reports that he had expressed distress over family matters prior to the incident.
