Three suspects have been arrested for allegedly impersonating Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company officers and demanding a Sh70,000 bribe from a casino at Yaya Centre in Kilimani, Nairobi.
The suspects, three men and one woman, reportedly visited LARC Casino on Wednesday and introduced themselves as officers from the water company.
According to a police report, the group requested to inspect the establishment’s Nairobi Water and Sewerage licence, which was presented to them by the casino’s Human Resources Officer, Emmanuel Momanyi.
After examining the licence, the suspects are said to have claimed that the casino had failed to meet certain water purification requirements and demanded Sh70,000 to address the alleged violations.
Momanyi became suspicious and contacted an officer from Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company, who promptly arrived at the scene accompanied by police officers.
Three suspects were arrested, while the fourth escaped.
The arrested suspects were escorted to Kilimani Police Station, where they were placed in custody pending further police action.
Police are handling the case as an alleged impersonation incident.
