Ugunja MP Okoth Bodyguard Fires Warning Shots After Youths Attempt to Snatch MP’s Wallet

Panic briefly gripped a home opening ceremony in Rambula, Ugunja,Siaya county after a security officer attached to Ugunja MP Moses Okoth fired four warning shots to disperse rowdy youths who ttempted to rob the legislator.

According to a police report, the incident occurred at about 2:30 p.m. on Sunday during the official opening of Kevo home Timberyard at Rambula Angolo Market.

The event attracted more than 600 people and was attended by Energy Cabinet Secretary James Opiyo Wandayi, who arrived by helicopter.

Police said the ceremony proceeded peacefully until the MP was walking to his vehicle after the event.

A group of rowdy youths reportedly confronted him, demanding money and attempting to snatch his wallet.

His security officer responded by firing four rounds from a Jericho pistol into the air to scare away the youths.

Other officers providing security quickly reinforced the scene, enabling the MP to leave safely.
