A 45 year old woman has died in a suspected electrocution incident inside a church in Orembe Village, Sino Kagola Location, Rachuonyo South,Homa Bay County.
The deceased, identified as Violet Ngwena Okoth, was reportedly praying alone at Repentance and Holiness Church when the incident occurred.
According to a police report, the incident was reported on Saturday night at around 10:50 pm by Sino Kagola Location Chief George Orao, who alerted Oyugis Police Station.
Police officers from Oyugis Police Station, led by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) and accompanied by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Rachuonyo South, proceeded to the scene in Orembe Village and upon arrival, the officers found the woman’s body lying inside the church altar, with loose electrical wires reportedly found at the scene.
Preliminary investigations indicated that Okoth had been alone in the church praying when the incident occurred.
Police said the body had no visible physical injuries, with the circumstances pointing to suspected electrocution.
The body was moved to Rachuonyo County Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
DCI officers in Rachuonyo South are handling the case as investigations continue.
