TikToker Joseph Gitonga Kianya, alias Gitonga Archives, who is facing a Sh500,000 extortion charge, will undergo a mental assessment at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) tomorrow.
Gitonga, who is being held at Industrial Area Remand Prison,Nairobi was arrested on October 1 for allegedly jumping bail in a case in which he is accused of demanding Sh500,000 from Amos Hunja, a media service provider linked to Cooperative Bank of Kenya, while threatening to tarnish the bank’s reputation.
Senior Resident Magistrate Grace Ouko rejected Gitonga’s request to be exempted from the assessment, saying courts are not medical institutions and that qualified medical experts are best placed to conduct the tests.
The matter will be mentioned on November 16 to confirm whether the mental assessment report has been filed.
