Inspector General of police Douglas Kanja has denied having knowledge about the abduction of a Tanzanian national Twaha Mwaipaya until the matter was reported at Ruai police station.
The IG told justice Alexander Muteti on Tuesday that upon the matter being reported, officers from the office of the Department of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have been assigned to carry out investigations.
Kanja while being cross examined by senior counsel Martha Karua over the increased abductions in the country, said that a team of police officers have been assigned to carry out investigations to establish who are the abductors.
He told the court that he was not aware of the presence of Mwaipaya in the country
The IGP strongly defended the police over the allegation that they are involved in the abduction.
Senior counsel Karua did ask Kanja to show by way of evidence any single report indicating completed investigations over the abductions.
The IGP only replied that investigations are still going on.
Kanja appeared in court following summons issued by justice Muteti to come and explain the whereabouts of Tanzanian national Mr Mwaipaya.
The matter was adjourned untill November 9 when a friend who was with Mwaipaya will come and give evidence over the abduction of his friend.
Mwaipaya’s friend was directed to report the matter to the witness protection agency so as to be guided on how he will give his evidence.
