A brief moment of tension unfolded in Likoni, Mombasa County yesterday after a police officer attached to area MP Mishi Mboko fired into the air to disperse a rowdy crowd demanding hand outs.
The incident which was reported at Vijiweni Police Station in the evening,stated that the incident occured around 4:15 p.m. near the Barrier Gate.
Police officer Abdalla Juma, who serves as the MP’s bodyguard, reported that the legislator was on a “meet-the-people” tour when her convoy was briefly halted by a group of supporters demanding handouts.
The situation reportedly escalated as the youths became increasingly unruly.
In response, the officer fired into the air to scare off the crowd and restore order.
The move made the group to disperse allowing the convoy to proceed without further disruption.
No injuries or damage were reported during the incident.
