A 34 year-old man is fighting for his life after being attacked by an angry mob in the Makamburini area of Kongowea, Nyali following an alleged theft incident.
The incident was reported by Idah Runguru, who claimed she was accosted by two men while returning from the market.
The suspects allegedly dropped Sh 100 and, when she picked it up they accused her of taking their money, sparking a confrontation.
During the altercation, one of the suspects reportedly snatched Sh 20,000 from her and fled the scene, leaving his accomplice behind.
The remaining suspect, identified as Juma Kombo, was then set upon by members of the public who accused him of involvement in the theft.
Police officers from Kongowea Police Station visited the and confirmed that the victim had sustained serious injuries to the head and back.
He was rushed to Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital, where he remains admitted in critical condition.
Police are urging anyone with information on the fleeing suspect to report to the nearest police station.
