Firearm stolen from Sonko body guard recovered, suspect arrested

A firearm which was stolen from a body guard of former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has been recovered and a key suspect arrested.

According to police reports from Karuri Police Station in Kiambaa, the operation was conducted on Thursday by officers drawn from the DCI Kiambaa, Karuri Police Station, and DCI Limuru under the command of the DCIO Limuru.

The operation followed investigations into separate shooting and robbery with violence incidents that had earlier been reported on April 27 and 28 this year.

During the coordinated security operation, officers arrested a suspect identified as Stanlus Ndichu Njenga within Njiku Sub-Location.

Following his arrest, detectives proceeded to Raini area where they successfully recovered a Beretta pistol loaded with six rounds of ammunition.

Investigations established that the firearm had been robbed from Administration Police Constable Brian Kimeu of Security of Government Buildings (SGB Nairobi) on April 27 and attached to Sonko.

Police said the recovered firearm has been secured as an exhibit while the suspect remains in custody awaiting arraignment in court on charges of robbery with violence.

Police further revealed that operations are still ongoing to trace and arrest other suspects believed to be linked to the criminal activities.
